The future of Cementon, a hamlet in Catskill will be the focus of a public meeting on Monday (May 4) at the Robert C. Antonelli Senior Center. Greene County officials are inviting residents, property owners, and other interested parties to help shape the Cementon Rebirth Plan, a major redevelopment effort aimed at revitalizing an area that once powered the region's cement production and economic growth.

The meeting will run from 5:30 to 7 p.m., offering an open house format to collect community input. According to the announcement from Greene County, this session is a key step as the legislature has recently passed Resolution 158-26. This resolution initiates the development of a Generic Environmental Impact Statement (GEIS) for a conceptual redevelopment plan in Cementon.

Cementon was once part of the Hudson Valley’s “Catskill Cement District,” supporting infrastructure from Albany to New York City and providing good-paying jobs. Over the decades, plant closures led to economic decline, underused properties, and lost opportunities. Now, Greene County’s initiative seeks a comprehensive plan to attract new businesses, encourage investment, and support long-term growth for the area east of the New York State Thruway, south of the Village of Catskill, and north of State Route 23A, as detailed by the Greene County Economic Development Corporation.

The public is encouraged to provide feedback at the meeting or by submitting comments via email to vkeyser@greenecountyny.gov until Monday (May 11). Comments will also be accepted from involved agencies for a minimum of 30 days after the Positive Declaration and draft GEIS scoping document is circulated.

For more details about the Cementon Rebirth Plan and how to get involved, visit the initiative’s website or contact Greene County Economic Development at (518) 719-3290.
