Motorists in the Mid-Hudson Valley are experiencing some relief at the gas pumps as prices have slightly decreased. According to GasBuddy, the average cost of gas in Ulster County has fallen by three cents to $4.00 per gallon. In Dutchess County, prices have decreased by about two cents to $4.14 per gallon. Meanwhile, Greene County saw a three-cent drop, bringing the average price to $4.07, while Columbia County's prices remained steady at $4.06.
Despite this slight decline, experts caution that the relief could be temporary due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East. Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, noted that the re-closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran has impacted global oil flows, potentially leading to price increases. President Trump has signaled further escalation if an agreement with Tehran is not reached, adding to the uncertainty.
While the national average has dropped below $4 per gallon, the situation remains volatile, and consumers are advised to prepare for possible price hikes in the coming days. As reported by News 12, the average gas price in New York state currently stands at $4.12.
