Nationals Rout Mets 23-5 After Syndergaard 2nd Inning Injury

A rough day for the New York Mets as they fell to the Nationals in the series finale 23-5. The game was off to a promising start as Jose Reyes tripled and scored on a Jay Bruce RBI single to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. That lead was short-lived as Mets starter Noah Syndergaard allowed 5 runs in the bottom of the first and then left the game with lat injury in the bottom of the second.

The Mets would hang around as Rene River and Jay Bruce hit home runs and Sean Gilmartin and Michael Conforto would drive in a run a piece with RBI singles to make it a 6-5 game, but the Nationals would explode for 17 runs over their last four innings. Anthony Rendon had a career day goin six for six with three home runs and a whopping ten RBI's. In total the Nats hit 7 home runs, three of them off of the Mets backup catcher, Kevin Plawecki who pitched two innings in relief.

Noah Syndergaard will have an MRI on Monday morning back in New York as the Mets head to Atlanta for four against the Braves. 'Mets on Deck' leads off coverage on Monday evening at 6:05.
