I applaud Attorney General Jeff Sessions saying today that he would recuse himself when necessary from any investigation into alleged ties between Russia and the Trump campaign.
It is just a matter of perception. I think his testimony before Congress was imprecise on this issue. By recusing himself where necessary it takes this away from Democrats, who want this to play out as a major issue.
Sessions was asked about possible contact between members of President Trump's campaign and Russian officials during his confirmation hearings to become Attorney General. During the hearings Sessions did not mention meeting with the Russian Ambassador and said he knew of no contacts between Trump surrogates and Russians. Yesterday reports surfaced that Sessions met twice last year with the top Russian diplomat.
