I will be watching the Silver trial very closely. 24/7 News reports that opening statements are expected today in the re-trial of former New York Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver. A 12-person jury will try to determine whether Silver is guilty of corruption.
He was convicted of a bribery scheme in 2015 but that conviction was later tossed by a judge after the U.S. Supreme Court narrowed the legal definition of public corruption. Silver is accused of using his office to hand out favors while accepting several million dollars in kickbacks.
This trial will shed more light on the sad state of New York government.
